英国当地时间12月13号晚上，英国近两千万电视观众观看了ITV 的热门电视选秀节目The X Factor的决赛，来自北英格兰南谢尔兹（South Shields）的18岁学生乔·麦克尔德里（Joe McElderry）最终夺魁，并赢得一百万英镑的唱片合同。他演唱的单曲“THE CLIMB”登上了UK TOP40排行榜第二名的位置。
过去几年来，它一共产生了14首冠军单曲，并推出了像利昂娜·路易斯(Leona Lewis)那样的国际歌星。如今，麦克尔德里赢得冠军的《攀登》(The Climb)更是成为今年圣诞冠军单曲的热门。这首歌翻唱自今年的新片《汉娜·蒙塔娜》(Hannah Montana: The Movie)中的主题曲，由麦莉·塞勒斯(Miley Cyrus)演唱。关于这首歌还有一点小插曲，它原本获得了本届格莱美最佳影视歌曲的提名，但是由于美国唱片学会刚刚发现这首歌不是专门为电影创作的，便于近日发表声明取消了其提名资格，取而代之的是耶耶耶(The Yeah Yeah Yeahs)主唱凯伦·欧(Karen O)为电影《野兽王国》创作的《All Is Love》(全是爱)。由麦克尔德里演唱的《攀登》已于本周一提供下载，本周三正式发行实体CD。
