Fairytale Of New York-Pogues Ft Kirsty Maccoll

The Pogues 乐队由8人构成，可以说是一支庞大的团体。乐器上，除了传统的三大件：吉他、贝司、鼓之外，他们还加入了班卓琴、曼陀林、笛子、萨克斯、风琴等乐器。朋克克音乐与sex pistols乐队的出现及其反制度、反传统的信条影响了当时无数的青少年也导致音乐形态的革命。

The Pogues 乐团的中心人物Shane MacGowan也就是深受朋克影响的其中一人。出生于英格兰的Shane小时候随父母回到家乡爱尔兰，六岁时又迁往伦敦。1976年Shane参加了 sex pistols的首次表演后不久便开始组团，几经波折后1982年Shane MacGowan(主唱、吉他)、Spider Stacy(锡口笛)、James Fearnley(手风琴)、Cait O’Riordan(贝斯)、Jem Finer(吉他、斑鸠琴)、Andrew Rankin(鼓手)等六人正式组成The Pogues 乐团，到1996年解散前团员更动或增加为八人，新任贝斯手是Darryl Hunt，增加两位团员是吉他手Philip Chevron与Terry Woods负责曼陀铃，由以上乐器配置不难发现The Pogues 乐团的音乐保有浓厚的爱尔兰传统曲调或称居尔特人独特的音乐风格。

但若要说The Pogues是爱尔兰的民谣团却又失之偏颇，因为这群人乃出身地下俱乐部，奉朋克为圭臬，所以The Pogues在音乐上可说是朋克与爱尔兰音乐的结合，80年代的非主流浪潮中，算是特殊的一种音乐混合风格。

另一方面The Pogues的走红与灵魂人物Shane MacGowan诗意、政治激进的歌词和本身颓废的生活态度都有着密切的关系。1984-1996年间他们发行了七张专辑(不含精选与现场)，而其中又以《If I Should Fall From Grace With God》最是有名，它不仅在爱尔兰与英国走红，甚至美国方面也注意到此一团体。而在独立唱片公司的鼓吹下，The Pogues在台湾也打开了知名度。不过Shane MacGowan的酗酒与用药渐渐危及到乐团的存亡，The Pogues终于在1996年划下休止符，不过Shane仍组成伴奏乐团或和其它乐手合作方式(譬如与Sinead O’Connor合唱)继续在乐坛上打拼。
